Mrs. Schulz brings a deep sense of dedication and passion for Catholic education to her role as Religion and Art Teacher at Holy Family Catholic School. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Edinboro University and Level 2 Certification from Westmorland AIU.
Amy's journey in education has been guided by a lifelong dream of teaching in a Catholic institution where she can freely share her talent, time, and love for our Catholic faith. Prior to joining Holy Family, Amy spent several years substitute teaching throughout the Diocese of Pittsburgh and many public elementary schools. She was a Preschool Aide at St. Irenaeus while her girls attended that program. This led to the opportunity to step in as the fourth quarter substitute for 3rd Grade, then into 1st the following year. St. Joseph School provided the opportunity to teach 2nd Grade. She feels blessed to be included in the merger with St. John's to become a 2nd Grade teacher at HFCS. Of course, God has His plan and has stretched her accordingly. This present assignment has provided adjustment, challenge, and excitement: the perfect blend for growth.
For Amy, teaching in a secular/public school has never been an option. She sees her role as teacher in a Catholic school as her vocation to share the Good News and to allow the Holy Spirit to guide her words and actions in revealing the truth of Jesus Christ to her students. The greatest joy is witnessing the "light bulb" moments and mind-blowing epiphanies that occur for her students, knowing that her lessons have made a meaningful impact.
Outside of the classroom, Amy fosters her love of piano. Piano lessons provided an outlet for emotions, enjoyment, and learning throughout high school. She was the accompanist for the chorus program at Sacred Heart High School. The Passion Play revived that love as she stepped into the role of accompanist, yet again. The all too familiar feelings of excitement and trepidation were ever present, but the thrill of accomplishment is ever sweet. Visiting her “Little Slice of Heaven” and staying in her parents’, now brother’s cottage at Edinboro Lake is a home away from home, where she stayed during her tenure at Edinboro University, is a summer must! Lakeside Bagels at the end of Elm Street in the presence of her father’s tree is a tradition. Mrs. Schulz is delighted and proud that her two daughters, Sammie and Emily, share her commitment to serving the school community with their time and talents, while being supported by their loving father, Bob; Amy’s husband and partner for life… it’s never dull!
